On opening the word for the first time, a start screen will come out. There on you will be able to make a new document, pick a template of your choosing, and be able to get your recently edited documents. On the start screen you will place and select a blank document in order to have access to the Word interface.

Your recent documents list is displayed on the left side of the Start Screen, making it convenient to reopen files you’ve been working on.
