Workstation

Sun SPARCstation

Workstations are high-end, pricey machines that are designed for one user at a time and are built for more complicated procedures. Some of the complex procedures consist of calculations of science, math and engineering and are useful for design and manufacture of computers.

For marketing purposes, workstations are often incorrectly named. True workstations are typically not sold in the retail sector. The movie Toy Story was made on a series of workstations for Sun (Sparc). Maybe the first machine that could apply for a workstation was the IBM 1620.
